Beit HaKahal

Where history comes to life

Beit HaKahal: A Treasure Unearthed

In the heart of Tzfat’s ancient Jewish Quarter, a 16th-century secret lay buried under rubble for centuries. What began as a total ruin was gradually excavated and rediscovered by Livnot volunteers and staff. Today, it is an officially designated National Heritage Site, transforming a forgotten neighborhood into a living historical landmark. Spanning 700 square meters, the site is a labyrinth of original stone structures, communal areas, and mysterious underground crawlspaces—including a historic 16th-century Mikvah.

      History You Can Taste

Beit HaKahal is far from a static display; it is a National Heritage Site designed for active connection. One of our most unique treasures is an authentic 16th-century stone oven, now modernized with gas, where we host our signature challah and pita baking workshops.

From monthly festivals to educational activities and local tourism, we bring the "Golden Age" of Tzfat to life through hands-on experiences you can see, touch, and taste.

The Vision: A Center for the Future

While the site already serves as a hub for workshops and tourism, we are only just beginning. Our mission is to fully develop Beit HaKahal into a world-class Educational Center and an immersive 16th-century village.

Through a partnership with the Israel Antiquities Authority and government funding, we are restoring these stones to strengthen Jewish identity. By participating in the restoration and the teachings of 16th-century Tzfat, volunteers and donors aren't just visiting history—they are building the future.
